Sweet Kismet was brought into Barstow Humane Society by someone (who may have been her owner) who said she might have been hit by a car. She couldn't walk. Her back legs dragged, and she just stayed in one place. A call went out for help, and she came to Shamrock, thanks to one of our dear friends alerting us to her plight. Kismet went immediately to our vet, as well as a neurologist, but none of the tests run shed any light on why she could not use her back legs. When she first went to her foster, she would use her front legs to crawl when needed. Since then she has shown how resilient she really is. While in a sling, she would use her front legs to walk, but within no time, her back legs started moving, too. There were a lot of steps and a few setbacks, but through it all, she showed just how much she wanted to walk. From sitting up on her own to taking steps if she was propped up on all four feet to actually standing up by herself and walking, she kept improving. She now does an adorable little trot when first taken out for a walk and will hop to try to get up. Kismet is the most darling little dog. She is so quiet, she'll sneak up on her foster mom and just sit and wait for her to notice she's there.
If she has to go out, she makes tiny noises or just walks over the door and waits.
Best of all, she is blossoming! Her personality is really starting to come out, and she lets you know, Pomeranian-style, that she is the Queen. Sometimes she'll tap her feet or make those tiny noises to make sure you don't miss her. When left alone, she may talk about it, but her voice is so quiet that you can't hear her outside the home. She loves puzzle toys (though she's choosy as to which ones), going on walks and hanging out with people. She doesn't like other dogs and insists on being the only pooch in the home. But her personality's so big it will fill that home!
